BOLD FAITH
1 Kings 17
The word “bold” has several meanings: fearless, adventurous, confident, clear, and conspicuous. Our emphasis for this portion of the study will be on “bold” as it relates to confidence. While Elijah and others we will study are certainly adventurous and sometimes fearless, we will focus on their confidence, specifically, their confidence as it applies to their relationship with God.
Bold faith implies an unwavering reliance upon God for everything. As I pondered the concept of reliance, I thought of several “non-spiritual” examples of those who must have a confident reliance in someone else. A trapeze artist. Every flip and turn and throw and catch must be approached with a complete trust in their partner.
I once rappelled down a high wall. My rope guide at the bottom had my life in his hands, and I expected him to protect it. Bungee jumping. People who participate in this mega-thrill activity (not me!) depend on others to do their job correctly – especially accuracy in cord length!
Bold faith approaches life with a confident reliance, dependence, and trust in God. Elijah and a widow will give us a glimpse of what that type of faith “looks like” on a daily basis.
