Called2Business Bio – Doug Hunter
A Colorado native, Doug Hunter spent 23 years in the Upper Midwest working in the Vertical Transportation industry. He began his career in 1971 with Carter Elevator Company, a regional firm headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, becoming its President and Chief Executive Officer in 1987. In 1986 Doug founded Lifters Limited, an organization providing accessibility equipment for the physically challenged.
During this same time frame, Doug was active in Christian Businessmen's Committee (CBMC), served as the Teaching Leader for Bible Study Fellowship, was Vice Chairman of the Sioux Empire Billy Graham Crusade, and sat on the board of directors for several organizations, including a major protestant denomination, a theological seminary and a regional bank holding company. Doug was also active in the Chamber of Commerce at local, state and national levels, as well as in national organizations related to small business and the elevator industry.
As a Christian CEO, Doug became involved with the Fellowship of Companies for Christ International (FCCI) in 1987, joining FCCI's board of directors in 1992. When he sold his company in 1994, Doug moved to Atlanta to work full time with FCCI. In the years that followed, God developed his heart for international ministry by allowing him to work, speak, and influence business executives in over 25 countries. He participated in ground-breaking ministry in both Mongolia and Vietnam, led a project utilizing sports television in China as a platform for the gospel, and worked with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. Doug also served Chairman of the Board for Providence Christian Academy.
In 2003, Doug joined the staff of Perimeter Church in Atlanta to lead Business Partners International (BPI), a strategy of Perimeter's Global Outreach Ministry designed to support the church's international partners as they ministered to and through those in the marketplace. This allowed a significant number of Perimeter's business and professional people to have kingdom impact through the use of their business skills and passion ... building on the belief that Business IS Ministry and Business IS Mission. Because the BPI vision and strategy have become a significant influence in engaging the church in the global Business As Ministry (BAM) movement, Doug is a sought-after resource for churches, as well as business and ministry organizations both within the United States and internationally.
Over the past ten years, Doug has maintained his love for the FCCI vision, and his passion for encouraging and equipping business leaders to fulfill their calling to impact the world through the amazing platform and opportunity business provides. So it was with a mixture of joy and surprise that he accepted FCCI's call to him to step into the role of President and CEO on January 1, 2008. He brings experience that began as the only member in his region of the country. He helped start over a dozen groups, and led his group for seven years. He has seen God transform his company, as well as literally hundreds of others since he first joined FCCI 20 years ago, and now he is eager to sit on the front row as FCCI joins God in transforming His world ... one business leader at a time.
Doug and Janet, a music teacher at Providence, have been married for 38 years, and are the parents of Darin (married to Laura), Joel, Eric (married to Britney), and Jennifer.
