Called2Business Luncheon Featuring Paul Cuny

February 20, 2008

·         Paul Cuny was given two assignments by the Lord

-        You will change the economies of nations

-        You will speak to leaders of nations on the Lord’s behalf

·         Jeremiah – nothing is too difficult for me says the Lord

·         Leadership is the key to everything – the values of the leader flow through to the organization

-        The Bible is relevant, it is up to date, and it is full of principles related to leadership, government, business.

·         The principles of leadership apply to us all wherever we are; whatever our age.

·         God’s qualifications for Next Generation of Leaders

-        Acknowledge that the take over is beginning – leadership baton being passed to next generation

-        Recognition of differences in generations

-        Articulations of God’s Never Changing Qualifications for His Leaders – the life of Joshua

·         A Few Facts – Those Under 40

-        2002 – 63% of the world’s population

-        Forcing change in how business and government train new leaders, interview, hire, fire, manage

-        Higher expectations

-        Entrepreneurial – Biblical concept

-        Global view of the Internet and Media

-        Technology is a lifestyle

-        World travel is common

-        Favorite question is why?

-        Typical person in today’s generation has 12 jobs before the age of 40

-        Self confident and self centered

·         Last Days Generation

-        Daniel 12:4 – when travel and education shall be vastly increased.  The Internet has allowed this to happen.  Technology has allowed this to happen.

-        Joel 2:28-32, Acts 2:17 – changes in culture, God creates a hunger in the generation

-        Not a marketplace movement but a move of God and His kingdom in the marketplace

-        Restoration of the kingdom of God

God’s Leadership Qualifications – from Joshua

1.       Worshipper who loves the presence of God – Exodus 33:11

·         Joshua would not depart from the tent – (adolescent servant of Moses)

·         Joshua recognized the importance of being alone with God

·         Joshua loved the presence of the Lord, he lingered in the tent

2.       Your place in culture is God’s response to prayers of those who have come before you (Numbers 27:16-17)

·         Recognize the men and women who went before you, honor them, recognize their prayers have allowed you to be where you are today.

3.       Man or woman of the Spirit (Numbers 27:18)

·         God told Moses that Joshua was a man in whom is the Spirit, lay hands on him, designate him as the leader.

4.       Designated by the Lord to lead (Numbers 27:19-20

·         Pastor/priest – quiet counsel, we all need a pastor

5.       Learn from the mistakes of past leaders and do greater exploits – Joshua 1:5-6

·         Read Scripture – from a practical perspective

·         God speaks concisely, precisely, and effectively

6.       Leadership requires obedience and execution of the known will of God – Joshua 5:2-3

·         Joshua made himself flint knives and circumcised the men – this was the instruction from God

·         Get orders from the King, know God’s will, and obey Him

·         Don’t live with regret

·         As a leader, you have to sometimes make unpopular decisions.  You must obey the Lord.

7.       Integrity of a Covenant Keeper

·         Joshua 10:7-9

·         Covenant – if I made covenant with another person, that meant that I came to the aid of that person, to the aid of their family.

·         We should have very few covenant relationships.

·         Covenant relationships will keep us from making mistakes

8.       Influenced by Godly Influencers

·         Joshua 14:6

·         Associate with like heart and similar calling

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

A question was asked by an attendee regarding practical application in business – how he prayed and spent his day off each month praying for business.

·         God impressed upon Paul CUNY to take one day off each month to pray only for his business.

·         Business / Occupation / Job is holy to the Lord

-        Your business is holy to the Lord

-        Your job is holy to the Lord

-        Your sales are holy to the Lord

·         He would turn off his cell phone, get away from the office and distractions and pray and worship the Lord.

·         Becoming a worshipper is key

·         He would write on the top of blank sheets of paper headings:  business deals, aspects of the business, issues he was facing.

-        He would pray, study the Word, wait on the Lord.

-        The Lord would give him impressions, ideas, thoughts, details.

-        He would write them down.  Honor the word of the Lord enough to write it down.  When the Lord reveals something to you via an impression, an idea, a verse – you should write it down.

-        The Lord would give him details about employee issues, business development, and wisdom to know how to make adjustments, information on certain deals.

Another question was asked related to Entrepreneurial Focus

·         Paul challenged us to read Deuteronomy

-        Targeted at small business owners and farmers

·         Deuteronomy 11

-        Moses said the land was not like the land in Egypt

-        Moses is speaking to farmers and small business owners

-        Egypt – flat lands and watering crops on a treadmill (pumping water with feet)

-        In the promised land, there are hills and valleys

-        God told the people that He would water the crops and provide irrigation (former and latter rain)

-        The regulation of water flow is tied to obedience

-        The Lord would provide grass to the cattle and rain for the crops

-        The key would be if the people obeyed and followed the Lord

-        The people had to labor and had to plan, but the Lord sent the rain
