Called2Business Luncheon Featuring Sidney Hinton

September 17, 2008

Sidney Hinton, President and CEO of PowerSecure and co-founder of The Other 6 Days, was the featured speaker at the Wednesday, September 17th Called2Business luncheon.  We greatly appreciate him sharing testimonies and encouraging us with lessons learned and principles to apply to our work lives.  It was a great luncheon!  Now it is time for us to PIP - Put into Practice what we heard.  See a brief recap of some of the items he mentioned:

  • Our Testimony because of God's Love and Jesus Christ - Mercy, Grace, Power

  • Two obstacles that businessmen and businesswomen face are being still enough to

hear the Lord and having faith in Him.

  • The biggest thing we can do for our employees and co-workers is to love them and

              walk out our faith.

  • When the Lord calls, He equips.

  • Parents extending mercy and grace to their kids (shared how his parents did this for

him - they did not condemn him).

  • Focus on the beam in your own eye before addressing the speck in your brother or

              sister's eye.

Lessons that Sidney has learned over the years in business and life

1.           Do not fear.  Trust in Him and not myself.  Joshua 1:6-9.

2.           Encourage people whether they deserve it or not (provided an analogy about coaching 6-7 year olds and affirming them instead of crushing them and being harsh).

3.           Understand what people need to be (help them get there).

4.           Live out faith - do not preach (show love, care, compassion, concern).

5.           Treat others the way you want to be treated (pay them, admire them, respect them, focus on what they do well, see the good and emphasize it).

6.           Give people opportunities.

7.           Provide a nurturing environment.

8.           Don't let busyness destroy relationships.  Are you running on fumes or are you being filled and energized by the Holy Spirit daily?

9.           Don't speak harshly.

10.       Show compassion (Good Samaritan story).

11.       Store up treasures in heaven.
