How Can We Forget?
I have a confession to make: I completely forgot about sending the AJM email this month! I don't even have any good excuses except maybe working on multiple tax returns, but to be honest, I simply forgot. Our goal is to have it out before or on the 1st of the month and that day came and went and it never even crossed my mind. Aren't you glad I wasn't responsible for someone's medication that day or the solving of some national crisis? Whew!
But as I thought about how easily I forgot one of my important commitments, I couldn't help but think about how simply we forget God in the same way. In Deuteronomy 6:12 Moses is giving the Israelites instructions for their life in the Promised Land. He says, "Be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery." I read that and think, "How in the world could they forget the Lord? He just set them free from Pharaoh and bondage!" Unfortunately, my friends, Moses admonition is for us as well. I am amazed at how easily I can get caught up in disappointment, anger, sadness, or frustration and forget the God who promises to be there for me always (Matthew 28:20).
Are you facing difficult circumstances today? Have you forgotten the One who loves you? In Isaiah 49:15 the Lord says, "I will not forget you!" Stay in His Word, in fasting, in prayer, in fellowship, in praise...He loves you! And He will get you through!
Let's Pray. Father, forgive us when we get caught up in our emotional turmoil and forget the Prince of Peace. Thank You for Your love and patience with us. We choose to remember You in all things in a fresh way today. In Jesus' Precious Name we pray. Amen.
