JANUARY 2008 DEVOTION
"Commit your way to the LORD." Psalm 37:5a
Rather than come up with "Resolutions" on New Year's Day each year, on Christmas Day each of our family members writes on an index card their "gifts" for Jesus for the following year. Sometimes we promise an attitude adjustment or new spiritual discipline. For others it's a relationship, goal, or new pursuit God has put in our lives. It's a time of reflection, commitment and searching our hearts for what will please God in our lives. We seal them up and pack them away with our other Christmas decorations until the following Christmas.
I'm sad to admit that many years when I see the previous year's commitment, it has barely been fulfilled; if at all. My joy was great this December 25th, however. While I still have a long way to go, I had actually made much progress in my 2006 commitment to God! I won't bore you with the details of what it was, but I will encourage you to do likewise! Take time this week to evaluate all that God is doing in your life. Where have you been? Where are you going? Most importantly, where does HE want you to go next in your day-to-day life? Write it down and commit it to prayer and action! Let's make 2008 a fruitful year in Jesus!
Let's pray. Father, thank You for a new year! We pray You will guide us and direct us unto Your very best for each of our lives. We desire to bring You glory and honor in every area possible! We love You, Lord! In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.
