JANUARY 2010 DEVOTION
Sometimes "New" is a Process
Each and every time a new child entered our household (I have five), it took approximately nine months from the time I found out the baby was in my womb to the moment I held him or her in my arms. I have always appreciated God's wisdom in allowing parents that season of preparation. Even with the fifth child, there were adjustments to be made and plans to be worked out.
We have all just entered a new year, and I have no doubt that the God of the universe has wonderful plans for each one of you. Many of you are already anticipating events of the year: a new job, a new relationship, a new home, and even a new baby. What's new for your 2010? My encouragement to you this month is to enjoy the process.
Last year I had in front of me one child's high school graduation, one child's college graduation and wedding, and another son's invitation to play baseball at the beach for the summer. As the year went on, we faced changes in high school for one son, our married son moving, and our oldest daughter going off to college four hours away. There were times when I had no idea how everything would come together, but living one step at a time with Jesus makes all things possible! I am happy to report that we have made it through those events (with many blessings!) and look forward to whatever God has in store for 2010.
Changes and new adventures in life can seem daunting, but the Lord is faithful. The scripture tells us that He will not give us more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13), and that we will never have to go through any of it alone (Matthew 28:20). "Keep in step with the Spirit," Paul says in Galatians 5:25, and not only will the end result be a blessing but the journey along the way will be full of life, peace and godly direction as well.
Let's pray. Father, we thank You for the many "new" things You have planned for us this year. Please fill us with the assurance of Your presence and guide us each and every day. We pray our lives will bring much glory and honor to You! In Jesus' Precious Name we pray. Amen.
