JUNE 2008 DEVOTION
Don't Be Afraid to Rest this Summer
"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10
Have you ever noticed the context of this verse? The psalmist is speaking of trouble, fear, natural disasters, and wars, yet he understands the importance of not trying to "fix it" all. He is challenging himself and others to trust God in the midst of it all. In our very busy world, whether we have major catastrophes or just everyday obligations and expectations, the drive to DO SOMETHING can be overwhelming. I invite you this summer to answer God's call to "be still and know Him." He reveals Himself in so many ways - through His Word and prayer of course, but also through good books, good music, good relationships, and a good nap! He WANTS you to know Him, and sometimes the most effective way for that to happen is through deliberate stillness. Look for Him in all things and be blessed!
Let's pray. Father, thank You for Your love for us and Your desire to reveal Yourself. Please forgive us for our unnecessary activities and help us to choose the stillness, to choose You. We look forward to this summer with You! In Jesus' Precious Name we pray. Amen.
