I love the story in 1 Kings 17 about Elijah and the widow of Sidon. The widow had nothing but a command from God to feed a man she did not know with provisions she did not have. Elijah had nothing but a word from God to depend on a woman he did not know to feed him food she did not have. The common denominators here are: both had a word from God, many unknowns and an opportunity to trust God in a fresh way.
In our world today, we tend to demand more "substance" before we are willing to trust God. We want to see the pantry overflowing and the resources plentiful before we walk by faith. Funny thing is...seeing it all, having it all, and understanding it all isn't faith...at all! Hebrews 11:1 states plainly, "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we DO NOT SEE" (emphasis mine). Today, I pray we will endeavor to listen to God's voice, take His plan, and run with it - no matter what the circumstances seem to say. God is faithful!
If you read Elijah and the widow's story, you will find out she had only a little flour and oil, but that was all God needed to sustain them for many, many days. What has God given you? If you will use it according to His Word, He will sustain you and use you to bless others for many, many days as well.
Let's pray. Father, we thank You for the privilege of walking by faith. Please guide us, Lord, in ways that are pleasing to You. We gladly give You our last remaining "oil and flour" and trust You to bring Your Word to pass in our lives. In Jesus' Precious Name we pray. Amen.
