MARCH 2008 DEVOTION
Don't Miss the Moment
Recently, my oldest daughter, Kara, was crowned homecoming queen at her school. Unfortunately, I missed the whole thing. Well, not exactly. I was there physically, but in every other way I was completely absent. Why? Because earlier in the evening, during the last minute of her basketball game, Kara went down with the most severe leg cramps I had ever seen. After warms cloths, tastes of mustard, intense massaging, and tons of other advice, she finally regained her footing and was able to head home to prepare for the homecoming activities. I stayed behind to watch her brother play, but was kept updated on her progress. When I went to the dressing room to help her after the final game, she still wasn't there. When she finally arrived, she was moving very slowly. Later, as she moved down the walkway and was crowned, I couldn't focus on anything except praying she didn't cramp up again and worry that she would. When I watched the video the next day, I thought, "Oh, that was such a sweet evening!" But I had really missed the moment.
I wonder how often we do the same thing in our spiritual lives. We serve a God who is constantly intervening, working, speaking, directing, accomplishing, and blessing, and I fear we are often so immersed in our daily worries and concerns that we miss many, many tender and wonderful moments with Him. No matter what is going in the world, our God is ever-present and eager to walk through it with us. How can you share some special moments with Him today? How can you share every moment with Him?
Let's pray. Father, thank You for Your omnipresence in our lives. Forgive us when we digress into places of fear and worry or even simple neglect of You. Please help us to enjoy Your Friendship in our lives each and every day. We love You and trust You completely. In Jesus' Precious Name we pray. Amen.
